As far as education goes, the east coast does not disappoint! New Hampshire is one amongst many east coast giants in college education. Dating as far back as 1769 with the founding of Dartmouth College, New Hampshire offers prime education on top of the Atlantic. The population is well-educated and well-funded. From the University of New Hampshire alone, after ten years of graduating with a bachelor’s degree, New Hampshire graduates earned $53,300—55% above the national median! However, that success comes with a price tag; 76% University of New Hampshire graduates have student debt, which is well above the national average.
While Dartmouth College is unparalleled as an Ivy League, other notable universities include the aforementioned University of New Hampshire along with the nationally recognized liberal arts school of Saint Anselm College. While the University of New Hampshire is a public school, both Dartmouth and Saint Anselm are private with tuitions to match. Nationally ranked at #13, Dartmouth’s tuition is just under $60k a year while the University of New Hampshire is just shy of $35k for in-state residents. If these price tags look intimidating, have no fear! Here’s a list of scholarships for New Hampshire students:
Award Amount: $400- $2,000
Deadline: April 15, 2021
Eligibility: Graduate from a public or private high school in New Hampshire, matriculate at least half-time at accredited colleges, select agricultural majors (forestry, horticulture, dairy science, agribusiness), GPA of at least 2.0
Description: The Abbie Sargent Memorial Scholarship stems from the New Hampshire Farm Bureau Federation, which is “dedicated to advocating for and educating the public about agriculture.” The application requires letters of recommendation, an essay, current transcripts, and a recent photograph. Other criteria that are looked at include your character, your level of financial need, and your level of academic achievement.
Award Amount: $250- $7,500
Deadline: April 16, 2021
Eligibility: Must be enrolling in or enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program, resident of New Hampshire
Description: The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation awards millions of dollars every year to “help New Hampshire’s most promising students with the greatest financial need realize their educational goals.” The deadlines vary based on whether you’re enrolled in a two- or four-year college degree versus a certificate or professional licensure program. The application itself requires an electronic copy of FAFSA filing, an electronic copy of a high school transcript, and email addresses for individuals who agree to write a letter of recommendation.
Award Amount: $1,500
Deadline: April 30, 2021
Eligibility: Must currently be a New Hampshire high school senior or Massachusetts high school senior, must be planning on attending college in fall of 2021must be attending a New Hampshire public college or university
Description: The Fisher Cats Foundation awards ten scholarships to New Hampshire high school seniors and two Massachusetts high school seniors every year. The foundation selects scholarship recipients based on “academic achievement, athletic achievement and active citizenship.” The application itself requires a “Statement of Commitment” from a counselor, teacher, or principal that attests to your academic achievement. You have to send an online form to your school counselor to upload that statement and provide your most recent cumulative GPA. You also need a “Statement of Commitment” from a coach, trainer, or someone who can attest to your athletic achievements (there’s another online form linked for them to fill out.) Be prepared to list all of your athletic achievements= as well as community involvement, extracurriculars, and future plans.

Deadline: May 1, 2021
Eligibility: Must be under the age of 21, must be residing in New Hampshire at time of application, must be actively pursuing post-secondary education, must be homeless or have been homeless at any time during your school attendance
Description: The New Hampshire Coalition to End Homelessness created this scholarship to provide “financial support to students currently living in NH who have experienced homelessness during their school career, have a desire to continue their education beyond high school, and have demonstrated academic achievement.” They define homeless as a person who “‘lacks a fixed, reguler, and adequate night-time residence.’” The application includes a form for your personal information, a personal essay of 500-1,000 words that addresses the prompt questions, an official school transcript, a letter from someone (e.g. local homeless education liaison, school official, outreach worker, shelter provider, religious leader, other homeless service provider) who can confirm your homeless status, and at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or unrelated adult that can attest your qualifications and experiences.
As you can see, each scholarship requires the same basic information: you fill out a form, pull together a few letters of recommendation, and send in a copy of your transcripts.
