College Scholarships for Engineering Students

As far as college majors go, engineering is guaranteed to be at the top for difficulty but also lucrative careers after the degree. While focusing on studying for your physics midterm or calculus quiz, you shouldn’t have to worry about paying for all of your rigorous courses. The following scholarships are geared toward engineers like you. Many are awarded annually with multiple recipients, so mark your calendars for future cycles as well!  

Amount: Varies

Deadline: February 18 for undergraduates, March 16 for high school seniors

Eligibility: Have an ASME student membership, accepted and enrolled full-time in an ABET accredited school

Description: The ASMA scholarships are “made to a student to enable or assist the student in pursuing an educational program in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology at the undergraduate or graduate level.” The Scholarship Program as a whole aims to lift the financial burden from students pursuing mechanical engineering, encourage involvement in ASME, expand the engineering workforce, and support students who show potential for contributing to the advancement of mechanical engineering or related fields.

Amount: $3,000

Deadline: December 15, 2021

Eligibility: Undergraduate student enrolled in a U.S. college or university with recognized engineering department programs at the time the application is submitted for this scholarship, must show anticipated graduation date as being later than date awards are funded, show an active interest in field of nondestructive testing and evaluation

Description: This Engineering Scholarship “provides an incentive to undergraduate students enrolled in U.S. universities and colleges with recognized engineering programs to choose NDT/NDE as their field of specialization.” Students selected for the scholarship will receive the cash prize. Look at the website’s past winners to gauge what caliber of student they’re looking for.

Amount: Up to $5,000

Deadline: May 1, 2021

Eligibility: Have completed sophomore year in a bachelor’s degree program or enrolled in a graduate program, United States’ citizen or legal resident, excludes Emerson employees and relatives

Description: The ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program is looking for “applicants who will make a significant contribution to the engineering industry, especially in fluid control and pneumatics technologies.” There are up to recipients each cycle. The program seeks to “reward exceptional undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a career in manufacturing and processing engineering.”

Amount: Up to $5,000/ year (up to four years)

Deadline: April 15 (annually)

Eligibility: Intend to enroll in petroleum engineering in a recognized university in your country, must become a Society of Petroleum Engineers member when eligible, comply with specified sanction policy

Description: The Gust Archie Memorial Scholarship “awards an outstanding student who plans to enter a university and pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.” It is a merit-based scholarship, so “recipients are typically in the top 3%” in class ranking and standardized test scores. Along with the online application form, applicants must submit at least one recommendation and documentation for entry exams, if applicable.

Amount: $4,000/ year (renewable up to 5 years) for 2-7 recipients

Deadline: June 15, 2021

Eligibility: High school senior, member of community from under-represent groups listed below, minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate high academic achievement in math and science courses, have expressed desire to pursue careers in electrical engineering/ computer engineering/ computer science, can demonstrate substantial financial need

Description: The P.O. Pistilli Undergraduate Scholarship aims to “increase the pool of professionals in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science from under-represented groups (female, African-American, Hispanic, Native American, and disabled students).” The application includes the Application Form, three letters of recommendation from non-relatives, official transcripts, SAT or ACT or PSAT scores, a personal letter outlining your future goals and why you think you deserve the scholarship, a copy of your most recent tax returns (IRS Form 1040), and a copy of your FAFSA.

Amount: 200 recipients for $10,000/ year (renewable for up to three times)

Deadline: April 1 (annually)

Eligibility: United States citizen, can demonstrate financial need, high school senior with minimum GPA of 2.5, current or planned four-year degree enrollment in eligible majors (aerospace engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, physics), current or planned full-time attendance at accredited four-year university in the U.S., interested in a paid internship with Lockheed Martin following freshman/ sophomore/ junior year of college

Description: The Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship Program was launched “as part of investment in the next generation of STEM talent.” It aims to make higher education accessible for all STEM students, but “particularly those from diverse backgrounds and communities historically underrepresented in STEM fields.” The application requires current, complete transcripts of grades that display your name, school names, grades with credit hours, and terms each course was taken in; it also requires a copy of a couple of pages from the IRS Form 1040 to verify the Financial Information section.

Amount: Varies, $8,000-$10,000
 
Deadline: April 20, 2021

Eligibility: Dependent of current/ retired NASA employees or reimbursable detailees with NASA, graduated from an accredited public/ private/ parochial high school or in home schooling or currently enrolled in college, minimum GPA of 3.0, pursuing course of study in science or engineering field at an accredited college or university in the United States

Description: The NASA College Scholarship fund is distributed through up to five scholarships. Along with a completed application form, you have to submit an official high school transcript, your most recent official college transcripts, and a one-page statement of academic purpose. The board that judges applicants will be looking at academic preparation, school activities, community activities, performance on SAT or ACT (not required due to COVID 19 pandemic), and a minimum of three written recommendations from teachers or mentors.
