In the modern push for women in STEM careers, there is a wide variety of scholarships available for women entering or continuing college. While many great scholarship opportunities exist for each institution, the following list is accessible to women pursuing STEM degrees regardless of the institution they attend.

Award Amount: $1,000 for first place, $250 for runner-up

Deadline: October 1, 2021

Eligibility: U.S. citizen or going to school in the U.S., an undergraduate in university, women from underrepresented minorities are encouraged

Description: The Alice T. Schafer scholarship is awarded to “an undergraduate woman for excellence in mathematics.” The woman must be nominated by another person of any gender. The nominator does not have to be in the field of mathematics or a member of the Association for Women in Mathematics. The nomination packet includes a 1-3 letter of nomination, an evaluation of the nominee using specified criteria, a copy of the nominee’s transcripts that verifies their undergraduate level, any supporting materials (recommendation letters, summer work, etc.), and a cover letter.

Award Amount: $3,000

Deadline: Every April 15th

Eligibility: Women pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree, majoring in STEM

Description: The BHW Scholarship is offered to incoming college freshmen as well as women already in pursuit of a degree. Along with a general application form, you must write a 500-800 word essay about either of the two listed topics. A photograph is also required.

Award Amount: Full tuition

Deadline: Fall 2022

Eligibility: Undergraduate studying in an eligible STEM field

Description: This scholarship memorialized fourteen-year-old Avonte Oquendo, a boy with autism who went missing and ultimately passed away. The scholarship is geared toward showing “support for the autistic community in memory of this extraordinary young man.” The application requires an official or unofficial transcript and an essay between 500 and 1,000 words on one of the three specified topics.

Award Amount: Minimum of $1,500

Deadline: May 1, 2021

Eligibility: Rising junior or senior female undergraduate, enrolled full-time in university, majoring in chemistry or related science, minimum GPA of 3.25, can demonstrate financial need  

Description: This memorial scholarship is geared toward female undergraduates in chemistry in the latter half of their degree. It requires the following supporting materials: an applicant statement, community service statement, leadership statement, research presentations list, research summary, future goals statement, resume or cover letter, most recent financial award letter, reference form from advisor.

Award Amount: Maximum of $45,000

Deadline: June 1, 2021

Eligibility: Currently a U.S. or Canadian citizen, women that have completed work toward a Ph.D., can provide written proof that they will in the institution during the award duration

Description: This fellowship is meant to “enable women to return to physics research careers after having had to interrupt those careers.” The fellowship covered expenses like tuition, travel expenses, dependent care, etc. The application includes 1-3 letter(s) of recommendation and “a letter of institutional support during the tenure of the grant.” The fellowship is traditionally meant to be nonrenewable.

Award Amount: $3,000 for first prize, $1,000 and $500 for Honorable Mentions

Deadline: July 20, 2021

Eligibility: Accepted at or enrolled in a full-time degree program in the U.S. or Canada, eligible international student, at least 18 years old, female, enrolled in a STEM degree program

Description: This scholarship is geared toward female international or DACA students studying any subject in a STEM field. The applicants that make it past the initial selection process will need to submit a copy of transcripts (or an admission letter) and proof of your citizenship, gender, and immigration status.

Award Amount: $10,000

Deadline: May 17, 2021

Eligibility: Female planning on or currently pursuing a STEM degree in eligible major (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Hardware Engineering, Computer Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Game and Interactive Media Design, Information Systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Systems Engineering), high school graduate or current full-time undergraduate in four-year university, minimum GPA of 3.0

Description: The Navisite’s NExt Steminist Scholarship Program is geared toward closing the “gender gap in tech and encourage young women to pursue their passion in STEM.) Along with the general application form, you must submit a current transcript that displays your name, the school name, grades, credit hours, and terms that each course was taken. A sixty second YouTube video is also required in which you describe your dream career in STEM.

Award Amount: $3,000

Deadline: June 1, 2021

Eligibility: U.S. citizen, actively pursuing graduate degree in eligible major (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Engineering or Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Polymer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Statistics), current overall GPA of 3.5

Description: The Shrader Diversity Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship that is geared toward women in STEM fields. The application requires current unofficial transcripts and two sources for letters of recommendation. The scholarship funds must go toward tuition and “course-related expenses."

Award Amount:  Three $20,000 scholarships over 4 years ($5,000/year), ten $2,500 one-time scholarships  

Deadline: March 12, 2021

Eligibility: Graduating high school senior, identify as a woman, plan to attend 2 or 4-year college. Pursuing a career in STEAM, high school GPA of at least 3.0, require financial assistance for college, enrolled full-time or half-time.

Description: The Women at Microsoft Scholarship is geared toward “promising high school senior women and non-binary people who plan to attend a vocational or academic college and target a career in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math).” The application process involves two letters of recommendation, an 500 word essay, a copy of either an official or unofficial transcript, and a general application of identifying information.
